The 3rd Diabetic Microvascular Complication Forum and Sino-Indian Diabetes Symposium

Diabetes has become a serious public health problem worldwide, with China and India in Asia being the epicenter of this epidemic. Diabetes is ranked as the fourth leading cause of death. Chronic hyperglycemia and other accompanying risk factors such as dyslipidemia and hypertension lead to diabetic complications. Asian patients have different profile of complication, suffering from more diabetic kidney disease, but less cardiovascular disease, compared with diabetic patients in Western countries. Other disparities are largely unclear due to lacking of comparative studies. It is important to understand the characteristics of diabetic complication in Asian populations, which may lead to better understanding of the mechanisms and improve the management of patients with complications.
The goal of this forum is to build up a platform for discussing the microvascular complications in Asian population among diabetes researcher from Asian countries. Speakers and delegates from various Asian countries including China, India, Taipei, Hong Kong are expected to participate in this event.
