Huashan Hospital, previously named Chinese Red Cross General Hospital, was founded in 1907. It is a general teaching hospital affiliated to Fudan University(former Shanghai Medical University）. In 1991 it resumed its position as the only hospital affiliated directly to the Red Cross Society of China. In 1992 Huashan Hospital was accredited as a "Grade A tertiary care hospital" at the first round of nationwide hospital evaluation. As one of the national highest-level medical teaching and research centers, Huashan Hospital enjoys high reputation for its outstanding clinical achievements and excellent services.

    Huashan Hospital has a total staff of around 2000, with 80% medical and technical professionals, among them 619 are medical doctors, including 335 professors and associate professors. The hospital has 19 Ph.D. candidates traing programs with 41 Ph.D. tut

tors, including one academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and one of Chinese Academy of Science. The Master Degree training programs are provided for the graduate students in 32 clinical specialties. Many professors from this hospital have been recognized as the leading experts in their respective fields and were elected as the chairmen or vice-chairmen for the national and local professional societies.

    Huashan Hospital is equipped with advanced medical technologies, such as PET, MRI, CT, SPECT, DSA, Electronic Bundle Imaging System (EBIS), Color Doppler Ultrasonography System, Gamma-knife, Argon-knife, Ultrasonic knife, X-ray knife, Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL), Linear accelerator, and etc. These sophisticated medical technologies have provided solid foundation for the clinical medical services as well as to the teaching and research activities conducted in the hospital.

    Huashan Hospital has established 34 clinical and auxiliary departments. Among them, 10 have been granted as the national key clinical medical specialties (Neurosurgery, Hand Surgery, Neurology, Integrated Traditional Chinese Medicine, Urology, Nephrology, Infectious Diseases and Antibiotics, Radiology, Cardiology, Surgery), 2 leading clinical specialties of Shanghai, 6 institutes, 10 research centers and 8 research labs. With a capacity of 1326 beds，Huashan Hospital provides clinical services for over 20,000 inpatients annually in addition to around 1.5 million outpatient and emergency visits each year. And the hospital has set up Sino-American Huashan high-grade ward for overseas patients, Gamma Knife Hospital and special wards for local patients. Currently, a satellite telemedicine center has been constructed for the convenience of consultation and teaching services nationwide.
